This is Brandi Silver, FCS Extension agent with the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Burke County Center. Today, I’m going to share a free, fun way for elementary, middle and high school students to learn age-appropriate personal finance concepts. Grab a pen if you think the school-aged kids in your life could benefit from learning personal finance skills.
The St. Louis Federal Reserve is a great financial education resource. Parents with children at home can use these lessons to begin or continue financial education. Enroll your child in the St. Louis Fed’s Personal Finance Virtual Summer Camp. You can find step-by-step directions and the enrollment code on our website.
Encourage your child to learn strong, financial habits early. Young people need to be prepared to manage their finances when they reach adulthood. This research-based program could be used as a tool for parents to discuss financial topics at home. Students who learn to navigate the world of debt and credit will tend to have more money for savings, which can help pay for large expenses without relying on credit, and they can set aside money for retirement accounts.
