Hello, this is Nicki Carpenter, 4-H Youth Development Extension Agent with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Burke County Center.

Do you ever feel like talking to your tween or young teen is like talking to a wall? EYFP can help your family break through communication barriers. EYFP stands for Empowering Youth & Families Program. Participants learn how to use brain science and child development research to better share their ideas, listen to others, and respond appropriately.

Families have the opportunity to have a break from work, school, and any other stress. This is also a chance for your family to meet new friends in the community.

EYFP helps families to prevent problems before they happen. Youth and caregivers use their family values to set reasonable expectations. They also learn how to distinguish behavior from emotions so they can better help each other meet the same expectations. EYFP provides participants with effective strategies to repair relationships if a problem should arise.

Previous participants reported that their families were better equipped to communicate the dangers of substance misuse with other youth, setting boundaries, and assisting in making healthy lifestyle choices. Meals will be provided at each meeting as well as all the materials needed for activities and games as NO costs to participants. So, Come enjoy some family strengthening time and let us provide your dinner! We are beginning a new group soon, so If  you would like more information, please give us a call at 828-764-9480.

Thank you, this has been Nicki Carpenter, 4-H Youth Development Extension Agent with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension.
