Hello, this is Nicki Carpenter, 4-H Youth Development Extension Agent with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Burke Center.

Are you, or someone you know, an educator of school aged youth? Do you ever feel that you need some classroom support? Call 4-H! 4-H offers a wide variety of K-12 age curriculum and programming that could be of good use to you. 4-H curricula provides educators and 4-H volunteers with high-quality, research-based educational materials for youth aged 5 through 18.

For example, 2nd grade uses the study of the life cycle to meet the 2nd grade objective standards. Each year, 2nd grade educators contact our office and register to use one of our life cycle kits that includes the curriculum and materials needed, as well as the hands-on CEU eligible teacher training at no cost. Kids love the life cycle study of hatching chicks or butterflies, and teachers love the classroom support.

Another engaging example is our 4-H Health Rocks. Health Rocks! applies 4-H’s successful Positive Youth Development model with life skill development and decision-making philosophy to the challenge of reducing tobacco, alcohol, e-cigarette/vaping and drug use. This program is designed for youth ages 8 – 14. This program is easy to use, incorporates interactive hands-on learning, meets National Health Education Standards as well as North Carolina Essential Standards.

To learn all the areas that Burke County 4-H can support your classroom or homeschool group, contact our office at (828) 764-9480. Thank you, this has been Nicki Carpenter, 4-H Youth Development Extension Agent with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Burke Center.
