Similar to your personal health, your home’s health will decline without regular maintenance and care. Today, I am going to focus on home appliances. Doing these things twice a year will help keep everything in working order and help elude future issues.

Check kitchen and bath exhaust fans and clean the screens. Make any needed repairs right away. You will want to clean the garbage disposal by pouring a ½ cup baking soda into the disposal and adding 1 cup of vinegar. Let sit for 10 minutes then wash away with hot water. Lemon peels are also great for cleaning the disposal.

Schedule time to clean and check your refrigerator and freezer. This includes washing the door gasket, and vacuuming condenser coils. Check the door seal by closing it on a dollar bill. If you can easily remove the bill, then it is time to replace the gasket.

Maintaining your washer and dryer are important as well. Clean the washing machine water inlet filters and check hoses. Replace if you discover any signs of leaking. Vacuum dryer lint from ducts and surrounding areas. This simple step will keep the dryer running smoothly and decrease drying time. Please be sure you are cleaning the filter of the dryer after each use to avoid a fire hazard.

Maintaining your home will save you precious time and money on repairs that could have been prevented with regular maintenance.
