Agent: Nicki Carpenter
Hello, this is Nicki Carpenter 4-H Youth Development Extension Agent with North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Burke Center. Today we have a special guest to share about her experiences with Burke County 4-H.
Nicki: Hey, can you tell us your name?
Gracie: I’m Gracie Pritchard
Nicki: And how long have you been in 4-H?
Gracie: About 7 years
Nicki: 7 years, and last year, in 2019, we started a new program with our teens, ages 13 – 18, and you were able to be a part of that group. Did you enjoy that?
Gracie: Yeah, it was a lot of fun. I got to work with the little group and they were something else.
Nicki: They were exciting?
Gracie: Definitely
Nicki: What was your favorite part about working with the little kids?
Gracie: I like doing all the dances with them, stuff like that.
Nicki: And camp songs? And hanging out?
Gracie: Yep. It’s a lot of fun cause they really get into it. So it’s entertaining for the bigger kids to watch them so it’s pretty cool.
Nicki: And so the teen training, did we prepare you well for that? Did you feel like you were equipped?
Gracie: Yeah, definitely. We had a bunch of cool equipment and kind of last second ideas cause sometimes things don’t always go to plan when you plan out big trips like that, especially with the littler groups. So you always got to have some plan B activities.
Nicki: Good! And we had you ready for that. So would you encourage other teens your age to be a part of our program?
Gracie: Yeah. Especially if you’re looking into anything with teaching or anything that involves younger kids. It’s really good experience.
Nicki: Awesome! Well thank you for being with us Gracie.
