This is Brandi Silver, FCS agent with the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Burke County Center. Our program today will focus on celebrating heart health month and give you tips for protecting your ticker.
Approximately 16 million individuals in the U.S. are dealing with coronary heart disease, the most prevalent form of heart disease. But fear not – dodging this health hurdle is totally doable. Being conscious of daily activities, adopting healthier eating habits, ensuring sufficient sleep, managing stress, and waving goodbye to smoking can significantly contribute to saving lives.
Getting enough physical activity helps lower your risk of heart disease and stroke. Adults should spend at least 150 minutes each week doing physical activity and this can be 10 minutes at a time. Anything that gets your heart pumping faster is beneficial. Sit less, take the stairs, work on muscle and core strengthening activities to reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke. Establishing a routine that includes healthy habits can make a positive impact on long-term cardiovascular health.
Now, make a daily date with yourself to improve heart health: Trust me, it’s a life-saving routine that will give you a big return on investment. Despite the serious vibes, taking care of your heart can be a normal part of your daily grind.
