Hello, this is Donna Teasley, Horticulture agent with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Burke Center.

It’s almost fair time. Yes, the Drexel Fair is taking place in a couple of weeks after missing a year due to the pandemic. Most all of the usual activities will be there including exhibit hall entries. Consider entering an item in the exhibit hall. Entries will be taken on Sunday, August 15 from 2:00 until 6:00. Flower and vegetable entries will be taken as well as a variety of other items-baked goods, canned goods, arts and crafts, sewing and many more categories. Ribbons and premiums will be awarded. It’s a great way to show off those prized dahlias and giant zucchinis! If you need a fair book to get all of the specific information you can come by the Extension office and pick up a copy.

Of course, there’s lots to do at the fair this year. Great food-be sure and check out the Cattlemen’s booth. If you can’t get a good cheeseburger there, then you’re in trouble! Stop by for the livestock show on Tuesday evening and the Veggie Varmint contest on Thursday and be sure and come by the barn to play cow patty bingo. Don’t forget to check out the booths in the exhibit hall. There’s lots to see in there this year. And of course there will be nightly entertainment and fireworks.

It’s been a difficult year and a half for everyone so take some time for a little fun and relaxation at the Drexel Fair this year.
