This is Matt Rodriguez, horticulture agent with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Burke Center.
Today's program is being used to talk about our pumpkin contest. Drop off your decorated pumpkins on Oct. 28th to be judged and enjoy a small prize, should your pumpkin be deemed a winner! Pumpkins can be carved, painted, or bedazzled to your liking. Of course, we will only accept “appropriate” decorations. We will have 3 categories, so that means three winners. One from the Adult, 19 and up. Senior, Ages 13-18 and Junior ages 5-12. We will showcase our winners in our November Newsletter. Pumpkins will be displayed in the hallway of our Agricultural Building and judging will occur on the 29th. We ask that you pick up your pumpkins on the 30th so you can display for halloween. Any pumpkin not picked up by 5pm on the 30th will be disposed of. Winners will be notified promptly after judging on the 29th. I look forward to seeing what Burke county has to offer in terms of pumpkin creativity! I hope you have a safe and happy Halloween!
