This is a Brandi Silver Family and Consumer Sciences agent at the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Burke Center.

In observance of Father’s Day, the Extension Office will be hosting a Mentors Matter event. Mentors play a vital role in the health and well-being of kids. The caring relationships they build with mentors help them avoid high-risk behavior by making them less susceptible to unhealthy influences.

This is a fun for all event. Our mentors will provide expert instruction, hands-on activities, and an opportunity for you to connect with young people in your life by learning a variety of skills.

The day will begin with an in-person instruction on making a spice mixture, seasoning a pork butt and preparing a smoker then will culminate with delicious barbecue sandwiches! We plan to have archery, fishing instruction, Lego challenges, golf swing clinic and more. The event is free for everyone so bring the family out to celebrate the mentors in your life!
