The Drexel Community Fair is coming to the Drexel fairgrounds from August 19-24. Your Local Extension Office will be there hosting a number of fun events. I personally, will be hosting the exhibition of Floriculture as in flowers  and Horticulture as in produce. Any Burke county resident can enter a submission. We will be taking in specimens from a number of categories. Produce consists of Apples, Fruits, Nuts, Sweet and Irish Potatoes, Peppers, Tomatoes, and Others. Each Specimen must be grown by the exhibitor and be named. A single person may enter one entry per class or subdivision. It is broken further by subcategories. For Example: if you’re submitting for Irish Potatoes. This category is broken up by White, Red and Yukon Gold. If you are submitting multiple varieties, you can submit a specimen in each subcategory. The Fair is a fun and community based event where residents can compete and enjoy each other’s interests and hobbies. Several local vendors and volunteer organizations will be present to provide fun activities. We will also be doing our fan favorite Veggie Varmints. Veggie varmints is a competition where youth and youth at heart can decorate fruits and vegetables to look like a person or animal. It is a fun creative activity that is sure to bring some laughs and smiles. Be sure to check out what our Ag and 4H Agents are doing for more agricultural fun. We look forward to seeing everyone there at the fair!
