Hello, this is Nicki Carpenter, 4-H Youth Development Extension Agent with North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Burke Center.

Our Burke County 4-H program is in Full Bloom!

Our county 4-H program has several new SPIN (also known as Special Interest) clubs available in the interest areas of sewing, gardening, horse without a horse, culinary skills, and shooting sports. These new SPIN clubs will meet approximately from April through August.

Our county program is also in the final planning stages of our 4-H Summer Fun program. During the summer, a vast number of 4-H opportunities will be offered, such as 4-H overnight camp, Cooking & Baking, 4-H Electric congress, Outdoor Water camp, 4-H Teen Congress, Sewing, Science camp and more! These opportunities will be available for sign-ups by the end of April.

Another opportunity that is open for registration now, is our Spring Break 4-H Mini-Clothing Camp. Youth ages 10 -19 will learn sewing basics, fabric details, fashion design, clothing upcycling and repair, entrepreneurial opportunities as well as how to use and make patterns. We will also visit local fabric, quilt and clothing shops. This camp will be held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 19, 20 & 21 at our Burke Extension Office.
