The Donation Station at the Morganton Wednesday Mini Market has had a great start thanks to the generosity of local farmers, market shoppers, volunteers, the Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Association, and community partners. This initiative provides an easy way for shoppers to purchase an extra item, or for vendors to donate surplus produce, which is then delivered to Burke United Christian Ministries to help provide fresh, healthy food to families in our community.
During our first two Donation Station events in June, the community donated 47.5 pounds of fresh produce, with an estimated value of $106.25. Donations included a variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables such as cucumbers, zucchini, squash, tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, cabbage, peppers, and blueberries. Every donation, no matter the size, helps improve access to nutritious, locally grown food for neighbors in need.
We are grateful to the many vendors and community members who have supported this effort. We also appreciate volunteers Kathy S and Vivian L for donating their time to help make the Donation Station a success.
The Donation Station will return to the Morganton Wednesday Mini Market on Wednesday, July 8, and Wednesday, July 22. Whether you're a shopper who can add an extra item to your basket or a vendor with produce to share, we invite you to join us. Together, we can continue supporting our neighbors while celebrating the generosity of Burke County's agricultural community.
