The Surry County Beekeepers Association and N.C. Cooperative Extension, Surry County Center will be hosting our annual “Bee School” for beginning beekeepers each Monday from February 1 until March 8, 2021, from 7–9 p.m. (EST). This year’s school will be held virtually, with each class on-line via Zoom, an on-line meeting platform. It is recommended to download Zoom on your computer, phone, or tablet before the start of the school. Zoom is a free app.

The Bee School will give you the information needed for beekeeping as you begin your amazing journey with your honeybees. Some of the topics that will be presented include introduction to beekeeping, honeybee anatomy, life cycle of the honeybee, the honeybee colony and organization, beekeeping equipment needed to get started, how to assemble equipment, seasonal hive management of the colonies, pests and diseases of the honeybees, and harvesting and processing honey and other hive products. We hope you can join us! Feel free to share this info and invite your bee loving friends!! All are welcome!!!

Registration is required for the Bee School and there is a $30 registration fee. The registration fee is for the Zoom link, expertise of speakers, and handout resources (sent by email). The recommended book for this year’s Bee School is “The Beekeeper’s Handbook, 4th Edition” by Diana Sammataro. Books are NOT included in the registration fee. Participants are responsible for ordering their own if so desired.

A link will be provided through e-mail once registration and payment is received. The only way to register for this class is to mail OR deliver the registration form and fee to North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Surry County Center, PO Box 324, 915 E Atkins Street, Dobson, North Carolina. Unfortunately, we do not have the ability to accept payment over the internet nor telephone at this time.
