Hay Bale Decorating Contest:

Who can Participate

  • Open to all 4-H’ers and their Families.

Categories of Competitions:

  • Due to the COVID-19 and our 4-H restrictions, entries must be constructed by individuals or families. One entry per individual/or Family.
      • Individual Cloverbud 5-7 (no competition, participation only)
      • Individual 8-13
      • Individual 14-18
      • Family – must be members of the same family (household)

Hay Bales Themes

Bales should be designed around promoting NC 4-H

  • Suggested Ideas include but not limited to:
      • Head, Heart, Hands, Health
      • 4-H Grows Here
      • 4-H Fall Harvest
      • 4-H Focus or Project area (Robotics, Grilling, Horse, Archery, Sewing, Service, STEM, Healthy Living, Civic Engagement, etc…)

Guidelines for Participation

  • Rectangular hay bales should be used.
  • Please limit your decoration to two (2) – eight (8) bales.
  • Entry must have the official 4-H clover or the words 4-H displayed somewhere on it.
  • Entries will be judged on 4-H message, overall appearance, use of materials, and creativity.
  • The bales should be decorated with good clean wholesome nature. No vulgar, frightening or suggestive decorations will be accepted.
  • NO commercial or Political party sign of ANY KIND are allowed.
  • 4-H members must be registered in 4-H Online. (Burke County 4-H, member at large for competition if not affiliated with existing club.)
  • The entry must be displayed.

Timeline

  • Entries can be constructed from October 7, 2020 – October26, 2020
  • Registration/submission is due October 26, 2020.
  • Winners will be announced by email and the Burke County Facebook Page    on Thursday, October 29, 2020. Prizes will be mailed out the first week of November.

Registration Requirements

  • You will be required to upload  (using submit link below) at least 1 but up to 5 pictures of your entry. You can take pictures from every angle: front, back, top and side so the judges can get a good look at your entry.
  • You will need:                                                                                    Participant’s Name – (if family, you can enter the name as: The Clover Family), County, Address, Age Category, Description including the theme you chose for your entry.

Pumpkin Decorating Contest4-H Fall Decorating Contest Flyer

Age Divisions

  • Cloverbuds 5-7 years (participation only, no competition, will receive participation recognition)
  • Junior 8-13 years old
  • Senior 14-18 years old

Rules and Regulations:

  • Create your own pumpkin creation using your own pumpkin and craft supplies from home.
  • Design, draw, and decorate your pumpkin. Remember to ask your parents for help if you are using paint or hot glue guns. (No carved pumpkins please.)
  • Get creative, give your pumpkin a name or talk about the farm family.
  • Snap a photo (1) of your pumpkin and submit it using the submit link below.
  • Upload your registration no later than October 26, 2020.
  • 4-H members must be registered in 4-H Online. (Burke County 4-H, member at large for competition if not affiliated with existing club.)
  • Winners will be announced by email and the Burke County Facebook Page    on Thursday, October 29, 2020. Prizes will be mailed out the first week of November.

Outdoor Fall Scene Decorating Contest

(porch, entryway, driveway, garden entrance, etc.) – outdoors

  • Due to the COVID-19 and our 4-H restrictions, entries must be constructed by individuals or families. One entry per individual/or Family.
      • Individual Cloverbud 5-7 (no competition, participation only)
      • Individual 8-13
      • Individual 14-18
      • Family – must be members of the same family (household).
    • Scene must include a minimum of three different outdoor fall features (such as: leaves, pumpkins, hay bales, gourds, corn stalks, etc..). Please, no scary, vulgar, suggestive or political scenes (these will not be allowed for competition). Scene must not exceed a 10 x 10 ft area, outdoors. (No active burning fires allowed for scenes.
  • Upload 1 – 5 photos of your scene from different angles and submit (using submit link below) with registration no later than October 26, 2020.
  • 4-H members must be registered in 4-H Online. (Burke County 4-H, member at large for competition if not affiliated with existing club.)
  • Winners will be announced by email and the Burke County Facebook Page    on Thursday, October 29, 2020. Prizes will be mailed out the first week of November.
