Cattle in the fieldIn December, N.C. Cooperative Extension, McDowell County Center hosted the initial meeting of establishing a Producers’ Cooperative for the Foothills Region. We are continuing that process. TheN.C. Cooperative Extension, McDowell County Center will be hosting Foothills Region Producers’ Cooperative Meeting on Monday, January 20, 2020, at 5:30 p.m., McDowell County Senior Center, 100 Spaulding Road, Marion.

The cooperative structure has been around for generations. A producer or farmer cooperative is made up of individual producers who come together for a variety of reasons. At the initial meeting, a good discussion was held about farmers’ needs. A cooperative could provide many services, including bulk purchases, training, equipment rentals, shared labor, and marketing. A summary of the discussion is illustrated in the graphic.Inventory chart image
