Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Class Coming Up in January
To many folks, gardening is a hit or miss activity. Sometimes you’re successful and sometimes you’re not. It can be frustrating and discouraging, not to mention expensive when your efforts are less than satisfactory. Now you can take much of the guesswork out of your gardening endeavors by becoming an Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteer.
The Extension Master Gardener℠ program in Burke County is designed to teach people out in the community the basics of good gardening and to give them a good foundation on which to build. It also shows them how to tap into Extension’s many resources when questions arise. In return, the Master Gardener volunteer agrees to give forty hours of volunteer time to the Extension horticulture program in his or her county. These hours can be earned in many ways and usually, the Master Gardener volunteer finds some outlet that fits a particular interest.
The Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteer class will begin on January 15, 2020, and will run for thirteen weeks. The class meets on Wednesday mornings at the Burke County Agricultural Building from 9 a.m. until noon. The cost of this program is $140.00 which includes a large workbook and resource manual. Information will be presented by experts in the horticulture field as well as hands-on training for the participants in this class, resulting in scientific, research-based techniques that will help ensure a positive gardening outcome.
Additional information and registration applications can be obtained by calling the Burke County office at 828-764-9480.
