Time to Attack Crabgrass Now!

— Written By and last updated by

Spring is not here but it is on its way. Don’t let the scattered days of warm temps fool you. There is more cold weather to come, BUT there are things that need doing right now in the home lawn!

Get the lawn fertilized now before summer heat arrives. Fertilizer combined with hot temps don’t suit the home lawn and problems can arise when lawns are fertilized too late in the spring. Now is a perfect time to get it done. Also, it is time to apply crabgrass preventer. Crabgrass will start to germinate in the next few weeks and chemical control must be out before that happens in order for germinating seeds to be controlled. There are many lawn fertilizers that have a crabgrass preventer included and these products work well.

Winter annuals are up and growing now. Weed control must be applied now before these weeds go to seed. Winter annuals include plants such as chickweed, henbit and hairy bittercress. Get them sprayed now. If you wait, it will be too late.

The things you do now will directly affect the performance of your lawn this season. Come and find out how to have beautiful, green grass at your house this summer.
