Gardening Workshops Planned
Spring is upon us and its time to get out in the garden and plant something. Gardens come in all shapes and sizes and no matter what the style of your garden, the North Carolina Cooperative Extension has workshops that will fit your needs.
Coming up on Thursday, April 7 is a Raised Bed Workshop which will show you how to build, plant and maintain a space-saving garden. This free workshop starts at 5:30 pm at the Burke County Agricultural Building located at 130 Ammons Drive in Morganton.
At long last, we have a Grafting Workshop planned for Burke County. It will be held on Saturday, April 16 from 9:00 until 1:00 at the Burke County Agricultural Building, located at 130 Ammons Dr. in Morganton. Participants will learn how to do 3-4 different grafts on apple trees and will take home 4-5 grafted apple trees that are ready to plant. All of the materials will be furnished for the class, even cutting tools so there is nothing to bring to class.
The cost of this class is $40 and needs to be paid at the time of registration. There are 20 slots for the class and we expect that it will fill up quickly. For this reason, you will not be considered registered until the fee has been paid.
One of our most popular workshops is the Container Garden Workshop that will be held at Ace Hardware in Morganton on Saturday, April 23 at 10:00 am. All sizes and types of containers, along with a great selection plants will be available for those who want to plant some gardens for a deck or patio. Extension Master Gardeners will also be available to help participants design, choose and plant their containers. If you have containers already, bring those and get them planted.
Let’s get this growing season off to a great start by learning something new at one of these upcoming workshops. If you would like more information about these workshops you can call our office at 828-764-9480.
