Burke County 4-H Achievement Night 2016
On February 2, 2016, Burke County 4-H held an Achievement Night recognizing 4-H’ers, Leader’s and Clubs for their outstanding work during the 2015 year. We were honored to have in attendance almost 100 people. Special guests attending included Burke County Manager, Bryan Steen, County Commissioners Maynard Taylor and Johnnie Carswell, and Charles Wilson and John Coburn with Extension Advisory Council.
Burke County 4-H Project Book award winners were named and included: Andrew Vasile, Ellie Shuping, Jessica Henson, Jonas West, Aubrie Snyder, Avery Pollard, Bailey Bryant, Emily Shuping, Jacob Hanlon, Joseph West, Ethan Hefner, Gracie Buchanan, Sierra Henson, Noah Hefner, Jesse West, Abigail Cinquanto, Alyssa Botelho, Atticus, Hogan, Burke Pollard, Cheyenne Botelho, Nicholas Thompson, Taylor Bryant, Alexandra Sinden, Caroline Sinden, Pate Pollard, Sidney Mull. These 4-H’ers excelled in areas of study such as: Healthy Lifestyles (Bikes, skiing, basketball, softball), Animal Science (Chickens, Cattle, Lamb, Sheep, Horse, Dogs), Communication Arts (acting, music), Environmental and Natural Resources (Archery, Hunting, Fishing), Personal Development/Leadership/Citizenship and Science and Technology (electricity, rocketry, robotics). These youths began by setting goal about what they wanted to learn in each of these interest areas, began working toward that goal by attending events, trying experiments, building or constructing projects, working with others to achieve their goals, learning from their experiences, keeping records of their movements along the way then documenting what the experience meant to them. Once the year is coming to an end, the youth put these papers together in a report form with some pictures and are submitted for judging by age categories. Several of our youth’s books will go on now for district competition!
