It’s Fair Time in Drexel
There’s no feel of fall in the air yet, and the heat of summer is still upon us but even though we aren’t done with summer, its fair time and the Drexel Community Fair is ready to start. Entries are being taken from 2:00 until 6:00 in the exhibit hall on Sunday, August 10. You can enter flowers, fruits, vegetables, arts, crafts, photographs, scrapbook pages, canned goods, cakes, cookies and pies in this year’s fair. If you are a Burke County resident you can bring your treasures to the fairgrounds before 6:00 on Sunday. Who knows, you might just bring home a ribbon or two.
Back by popular demand this year is our Veggie Varmint contest. Come out on Tuesday evening, August 12 from 6 until 8 and create a varmint out of fruits and vegetables. We’ll have everything you need to work with in the exhibit hall. There are elementary, middle school and adult categories and cash prizes. It doesn’t cost a thing to enter and you might just have some fun along the way. Finished creations will be judged and displayed during the fair.
While you’re at the fair, check out the livestock barn with its great assortment of farm animals. And don’t leave without trying a Burke Cattlemen’s Association hamburger. They serve the best hamburgers on the midway! There’s lots to see and do at the fair this year. Come on out and support the agriculture that is so important to our community. I’ll see you at the fair!
