Burke County 4-H Hosts Annual Awards Celebration

On Tuesday, February 25th, Burke County Cooperative Extension and the Burke County 4-H program hosted 4-H Achievement Night. Each year Burke County 4-H honors its 4-Hers and clubs by recognizing their accomplishments with annual awards. At this event, 4-Her’s are also receive awards for completing 4-H project record books and for their volunteer service in the community.

This year Burke County 4-H was honored to have Burke County Commissioners, Chairman Johnnie Carswell and Burke County Manager, Mr. Bryan Steen in attendance as they helped recognize these 4-H accomplishments.

Burke County 4-Her’s work each year on various 4-H milestones and these milestones earn them awards are called 4-H Achievement Levels. This year the following 4-Hers earned new 4-H achievement levels. Gracie Ballard, Lily Cook, and Jonas West all earned their 4-H Cloverbud 5-6 Achievement Level. Allie Bitz, Charis Ballard, Jacob Hanlon, and Joseph West all earned their 4-H Cloverbud 7-8 Achievement Level. Sierra Henson, Jessica Henson, and Jesse West earned their 4-H Green Achievement Level. And this year, Mollee Soirez earned her 4-H Gold Achievement Level.

Burke County Cooperative Extension also recognizes 4-Hers for their volunteer efforts with 4-H Volunteer Service Awards. This year Alyssa Botelho, Alex Sinden, Cheyenne Botelho, and Caroline Sinden all volunteered over 60 hours and earned Bronze 4-H Volunteer Service Awards. Also, Sidney Mull and Nick Thompson each volunteered over 125 hours and received Gold 4-H Volunteer Service Awards.

Annually, the Burke County Extension 4-H program honors individual achievements with a trio of special awards. This year Sidney Mull was the recipient of the 4-H “I Dare You!” award for her development in 4-H leadership and enthusiasm to do more.

The Best 4-H Officer Award was given to Nicholas Thompson for his continued officer work as president of two different clubs and as our 4-H County Council reporter.

Lastly, our 2013 Outstanding 4-Hers of the Year award was presented to Jamie Berry. Miss Berry is a senior at Patton High School and had many great accomplishments in 2013, both in 4-H project work and as a 4-H junior leader.

Burke County Cooperative Extension would like to thank all of the Burke County 4-Hers, volunteers, 4-H families and our community supporters for their dedication to the Extension 4-H program.
