Let’s Plant a Garden!

— Written By and last updated by

Gardeners are scurrying around trying to get spring plants in the ground for summer crops and flowers. Sometimes a large flowerbed just isn’t what you need and if this ever happens to you, the upcoming container gardening workshop that is being held on Saturday, April 27 at Morganton Ace Hardware at 10:00 might be just the thing for your next gardening project. Containers can look great on porches, decks and pool areas as well as along garden paths.

Almost any plant can be grown in a container and almost anything can be used as a container as long as it has drainage holes and space. Vegetables as well as shrubs and flowers are adaptable for container growing. Some varieties are better than others however, and there are a few rules about soil, water and fertilizer that have to be followed for a successful container garden. Come out and see what you can learn, and this year you can even build your own garden during the workshop. Plants, containers and knowledgeable helpers will be on hand to assist in the process. There are sure to be some great creations.

It will be a great day and the perfect opportunity to gain some knowledge and possibly a great container garden that has been planted for your specific needs.

If you need more information on the workshop you can call the Extension office at 439-4460.
