— Written By N.C. Cooperative Extension

Need help learning basic cooking skills, how to save money at the grocery store and how to practice food safety at home? Are you cooking just the simplest convenience foods?

North Carolina Cooperative Extension has developed a cooking education program – Cook Smart, Eat Smart — designed to bring North Carolinians back to the kitchen with simple, nutritious recipes and cooking methods.

Burke County Extension Center is offering Cook Smart, Eat Smart in a day-time series of four two-hour cooking classes starting Monday, May 17th from 10:00 am to 12:00 Noon. The following 3 classes will be held at the same times on Friday, May 21st and Monday May 24th and Friday, May 28th.

During the hands-on workshops, participants will have the opportunity to participate in cooking and sampling a variety of recipes. Participants also will receive a complete book of recipes tested during the program. Tasting of prepared recipes will be from 12:00 Noon to 12:30 p.m.

Cost for the 8 hours of training is $30.00, which includes foods that participants will prepare and eat and the resource book of basic cooking techniques and Cook Smart, Eat Smart recipes.

Call Burke Extension Center at 828.439.4460 to register. Registration program fee of $30.00 must be paid prior to the start of class, and class size may be limited.
